Wayfinding to/from the airport
Get me out of here
When Transdev took over the public transport connections to Leeds Bradford Airport, I was asked to adapt the brand I had designed for the buses to various sites at the airport and in the cities served, in order to help people quickly realise there was a modern, viable and sustainable way to get to/from the terminal directly.
The brand needed consistency and the messages needed to be simple, so people from all over the world could easily identify where the buses depart, and how to use them.
Too often there are various random buses at airport terminals. Do they go to the carpark, the city centre, or a small local town surrounded by sheep? Who knows! In this project I wanted every arriving passenger at Leeds Bradford airport to know about the airport bus, and everything required to use it, without any effort at all.
Project involves
— Adapting brand to signage, displays and infrastructure
— Strategy for how people move through arrivals and make decisions about onwards travel
— Simple route map design and application to vehicle interiors
— Clarity, consistency and brand distinctiveness
— Identifying advantageous opportunities for floor vinyls, pull-up banners and leaflet distribution, in order to maximise reach on a shoestring budget
The bus station at Leeds Bradford Airport is the main focus of attention, both to signify where the buses go, and to introduce the service as an attractively priced, sustainable alternative to taxis and car hire.
At the same time as promoting the service and drawing attention from afar, it was important to ensure that the shelter maintained the majority of its natural light, and did not become a dark, claustrophobic place as a consequence of being totally covered in vinyls.
